photoshop production example: starry sky fantasy – production example

This Photoshop tutorial mainly introduces the application of noise filter and cloud filter to create nebula effect. What is more unique is that the range of clouds can be controlled through blending options. Let’s take a look at the renderings first:

Renderings

1. Create a new image, fill it with a black background, and then use [Filter_Noise_Add Noise]. The settings and effects are as shown in the following 2 pictures.

Figure 2
2. Use [Image_Adjustment_Brightness Contrast] to adjust the image, as shown in the following 2 pictures.

3. Create a new layer, fill it with black or white, then use [Filter_Rendering_Layered Clouds], and press [CTRL_F] to repeat once or twice, and then change its blending mode to Screen. The effect is as shown in Figure 5. Then use [Layer_Layer Style_Blending Options] to make adjustments, as shown in the red arrow in Figure 6 below. The adjusted effect is shown in Figure 7 on the right.

4. Use [Color Balance] [CTRL_B] to color the grayscale image. The settings and effects are shown below.

5. Create a new layer and repeat steps 3 and 4. The difference is to adjust to another color and change the blending mode to hue. The image effects and layer palette are as shown in Figure 12 and Figure 13. Select the two cloud layers together, use 〖CTRL_T〗 to start free transformation, and enlarge some areas to the full image size as needed to create the effect as shown in Figure 14 below.

6. If necessary, you can use the Curves adjustment layer to change the brightness of the starlight. As shown in Figure 15 and Figure 16 below. The image effect is as shown in Figure 17.

7. Use [Filter_Rendering_Lens Flare] on the background layer, and set it as shown in Figure 18. The effect is as shown in Figure 19. You can add text at the appropriate position, and the effect is as shown in Figure 20.

Animation extension:
You can reduce the canvas size of the image. Be careful not to reduce the image size. Although the area becomes smaller after reducing the canvas size, the content in the layer is still retained. You can see the hidden parts by moving the tool. Taking advantage of this feature, you can specify the movement of each layer in different keyframes in ImageReady, with different moving distances to create contrast. The effect is as shown below.

Summary: Use the noise filter to create irregular points, and the cloud filter to create nebulae. Uniquely, the range of clouds can be controlled through blending options. Also, although magnifying the raster image can cause blur, the nebula in this example is inherently blurry, so the effect is not significant.
