Hello, everyone, I am Manhattan Impression. Today I will bring you two tips for removing photo noise (black and white, color noise).
What I want to share with you today is an article about post-production denoising methods. We know that when taking pictures at night, in order to get more light so as not to make the photo dark, the ISO of the camera will be very high. But once the ISO is raised, it will cause camera noise, like this (laughing)
These noises include black and white noise and color noise, so today I will bring you several commonly used denoising methods.
Method 1
(strongly recommended)
In order to let everyone see clearly, I will first take some noise pictures I made (Black and WhiteNoise+Colorcolornoise).
Black and white noise
In fact, this picture with black and white noise was originally a pure gray picture, so we can use the camera raw tool in PS to retrieve the pure gray picture.
First open this black and white noise image in camera raw in PS:
Select Noise Reduction in camera raw details
Let’s not rush this operation first, let’s take a look at what these parameters are used for. There are two sets of parameters under the noise reduction column, the first set is brightness, brightness details, and brightness contrast. The second set of colors, color details, color smoothness. Obviously, the first group is used to adjust the noise in brightness (that is, black and white noise), and the second group is used to adjust the noise in color (usually red, green, and blue noise). Let’s take a photo to see how these parameters affect the photo. What is the effect? In order to let everyone see the role of the parameters more clearly, we use a comparison method to demonstrate the effect.
Comparison 1
Brightness 100%, brightness detail 0, brightness contrast 0

Obviously, without any brightness details and brightness contrast, the photo can almost be completely restored to the original pure gray photo. Some people may cheer that the effect of this method is so good. Don’t be too happy too early. If you can really restore the photo to its original state just by relying on the brightness parameter, then PS is really incredible! But this is not the case. If you only adjust the brightness in this way, the photo details will be too missing and the photo will become distorted, and the character’s skin will have a plastic texture.
For example:
Comparison 2
Brightness 100%, brightness detail 22%, brightness contrast 0
As you can see, we can recover some details of the photo by adjusting the brightness details, so that the photo will not become too distorted.
Comparison 3
Brightness 100%, brightness detail 0, brightness contrast 50%
As you can see, some details can be retrieved by adjusting the brightness contrast, but the brightness details are still far behind.
Color noise
The operation is similar to black and white, but please note that the color parameters in color photos can only remove the color in the noise, not the black and white noise, so when removing color noise, the color parameters must be used together with the brightness parameter!
Just use color parameters
Color parameters + brightness parameters
Case presentation
Original image (black and white noise)
Brightness 86%, brightness detail 63%, brightness contrast 16%
Original image (color noise)
Brightness 96, Brightness Detail 24, Brightness Contrast 0
Color 95, Color Detail 13, Color Smoothness 50
Method 2
Smart Sharpening
Filter – Sharpen – Smart Sharpening
There is a noise reduction option in Smart Sharpening
Obviously, the denoising effect of smart sharpening is far less powerful than camera raw, but most of the small noise can be removed by smart sharpening. In practical applications Everyone can choose tools according to their own needs.
If you think the above method is good, remember to like it
